What's The Friggin Deal?

I couldn't believe it when I opened the paper this morning and saw an article on the front page of the Star section featuring these Monk suits. The first time I heard of them was on Ian's blog and I thought it was a joke. Then I saw TV skits and then finally an actual commercial. Now I see on Kelly's blog that he got TWO, one for his cutie partner. These look like an accident waiting to happen. But why couldn't I think of this and get rich?

I Was Just Bored

I've Got Spring Fever

Well, I should have something the way the weather is changing. Monday night I slept with the ceiling fan on with the low in the upper 60's. We had a high yesterday of 80 before the wind kicked up and brought things down to more appropriate January temps.
But I'm off topic, I ordered this sharpener for my pruners from LeeValley the other day. I can't wait to try them out when I get them. Maybe the February pruning will be easier.

Monday's Pit Stop

My Colonoscopy

I had my dreaded colonoscopy last week. It was my first, so yeah I was a virgin in that respect as well. As most people say, it was the day of prep before that was somewhat exhausting. That and getting transportation lined up since they don't want you to drive afterwards. I have a few friends but I don't like to tell everyone my business. Plus everyone works during the day and more importantly in a city the size of Houston proximity is always an issue. One of the directors at work was going to take me but then one of our coworkers was killed in a car wreck 3 days prior and my procedure was scheduled the time of the funeral. So I get my brother to take me and as I thought he had more questions for the doctor than I did. The procedure was smooth as far as I know. They put me out telling me to take 5 deep breaths and I remember nothing after the 3rd one. I felt fine afterwards other than there seemed to be a splinter in my ass. I got my results this Friday and although I only had one polyp removed it was precancerous so I will have to have another colonoscopy in 5 years.

One funny thing was that after the nurse gave me my gown and told me to get ready I was in the bed with my ass high in the air, gown opened in back. The doctor came in and said I could just lay on my side. :( I was trying to show some enthusiasm. I kid.

The absolutely worse part of the day was when my brother took me to my car in the parking garage at his work and my truck wouldn't start. DAMN! He had already gone up the elevator so I call his office and they tell me he's in a meeting. I said he just got on the elevator in the parking garage. In about an hour a security guard came and gave me a jump. I drove to a O'Reilys close to my house to buy a battery and the cutest guy said he would put it in for me. He made my day.
In closing, if any of you are getting close to the big 50 or have a history of cancer in your families be sure and schedule a colonoscopy.

My Girls

I took my girls to the relatively new Sugar Land park over the weekend. I had been on the back patio earlier and it didn't seem all that cold. However, when we got to the park which is situated on the Brazos River it was so darn windy a just a bit chilly. No wonder there wasn't anyone around. But the dogs love the colder weather.
At least I got to enjoy the sunset but I can't believe the city built this park and did not pave the parking lot. Maybe that will happen later with the fenced in dog friendly area of the park.

I've Been Buried In Work

Not actual work but I can't seem to get anything done. Here it is the last week in January and I've accomplished little in this new year. I know. I know. I have the same 24 hours in the day as you but some of you are so dam organized and productive according to your blogs. I read a fraction of the blogs that I did at one time and it's not for lack of interest. True, I have curtailed the majority of my blogging at work to be more professional. lol I suppose I spent more time than I would like to admit reading and perusing photos from other blogs. But it's not all about time on the Internet, I just seem to be getting little done.
By this time, I thought I would have some new recessed lights installed. Now is the time it has to be done to beat the heat. I wanted to paint my foyer and front hall and bathroom. I also had a couple of projects to get done in the yard, again to beat the heat. But alas I've done nothing. Oh sure the Christmas decorations and tree are down and packed away but that's about it. I've done nothing except for the typical chores and I can't brag about that as I sit here in front of the computer with a sink and counter full of dirty dishes and a dryer full of clothes waiting on me.
Oh Goddess of all Knowledge, Oprah help me!

Gorgeous Day To Run

It was a beautiful day in Houston yesterday for the 2009 Chevron Houston Marathon. But the closest I got to the action was in traffic when going to church.

I Know:Jack

The look on actor Jack Black's face says a lot while speaking to president-elect Barrack Obama yesterday at the inaugural celebration in Washington.

Football And Snow!

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin, holds up the AFC Championship trophy after his team defeated the Baltimore Ravens. Darn good game last night between Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens as they played for the AFC championship. The teams great defensive lines kept much of the scoring to a minimum and the game lost some of it's umph when Raven's Willis McGahee fumbles after getting hit hard by Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Ryan Clark in the fourth quarter. McGahee was injured on the play and left the game on a stretcher. But football and snow, that's awesome!

Now That's Teamwork:Amazing!

A US Airways Airbus A-320 airliner floats down the Hudson River between Manhattan and New Jersey (back) after making an emergency landing in the river after taking off from New York's Laguardia Airport this afternoon. The US Airways Airbus A320 jet with about 150 people on board came down into the frigid Hudson River off Manhattan after apparently hitting a flock of geese on Thursday and officials said everyone was rescued.

Ass Wednesday

Say What?

The leaves haven't been off the trees for more than six weeks. Yet with all the warm weather we were having prior to this week they are already full of buds.

Apple Dumpling?

An aunt of mine sent me these apple dumplings before the holidays. Since it was somewhat warm in December I didn't want to use the oven.
But with the freezing temps the last couple of nights I thought I would give them a try.

They are really quite good. They come with a packet of carmel apple sauce for topping. Ice cream is suggested but I thought I better not. It is a new year you know. No ice cream for 12 days. Yeah!

Darn You Jack Frost

Speaking of the colder temperatures, after carrying my plants in before Christmas I decided to take them back outside. Wouldn't you know it when I wasn't paying attention to the weather frost got my newly re potted plants a few days ago. I know some of you are buried in snow with sub zero temps but still. Darn it!

I've Been Buried In Work

I've had my nose to the grind stone and my lips to the pubes, it seems, for the last week and no let up in sight. I'm not sure if I have all that much more to do or the fact that I didn't do squat the 2 to 3 weeks prior. So I guess I'm playing catchup for all my leisure time last month. I'm suffocating!

Back In The Groove

I went home to the hills of Arkansas to see my father last week leaving on New Years Eve. I planned on leaving at day break but it was almost 10:00 AM when I backed out of the driveway. What's up with that? It's a 590 mile drive from my house to his and it's not that bad. I'm used to it since I've made the trip on average 3 times a year since I moved to Houston in 1985. It doesn't seem as long in the summer months when I can leave in daylight and arrive when it is still light out. I could have had mostly daylight if I'd got my ass going early. I'm just grateful I had great weather, no snow or ice to add hours to an already long drive. Oh and no speeding tickets. There are plenty of speed traps through East Texas I assure you. All in all had a great time and enjoyed being with my father again for a few days. It's not the same going home when your mother is no longer living. Life changed dramatically, especially the holidays after her death. At any rate, I'm glad to be back here and trying to find my groove. I can't believe it's January 7 of the new year and I've got squat done. Well I did finally get all the signs of Christmas put away and my yard mowed today. Yes,I'm still mowing my lawn in January since I planted winter rye. Color me stupid.on highway 59N where the traffic merges to one lane for the loop around the town.
More road construction along 59 N in east Texas. President Elect Obama wants more road work done across the country to help create more jobs. Our infra structure is aging and needs lots of work no doubt.

I'm always glad when I top the hill overlooking the valley of my home town.

Both old and new roads only have 3 lanes. You'd think since they have to blast the rock to get through these mountains they'd go ahead and make it a four lane.

Sable hasn't dropped her head yet 3 hours into the trip back. Here crossing the Arkansas River on I430 in Little Rock.

Getting back to Texas and beautiful sunsets. I took this going south on I30 at Texarkana.
