Time Change
This weekend the time changes back to standard. I'm glad. Although it will be virtually dark be the time I get home most evenings I won't have to drive with the sun in my eyes. Plus, I hate to see kids out waiting for buses in the dark in the morning. Don't forget to fall back as you hit the hay Saturday night.

Strange
The roses continue to bloom despite the frost yesterday morning and the cooler temperatures. It must be what they prefer. In the summer their leaves turn yellow and fall off or they get black spot. In addition, I'm not that good at watering so maybe it's because of the recent rains? At nay rate, it's nice to have something blooming in the yard this time of year when I enjoy being outside more.

The First Frost
Yesterday morning was the first frost of the season, at least in my area of southeast Texas. I made a piss poor attempt to protect my newly pruned and budding plants.

Just My Luck
I've been needing a new fence since Hurricane Ike took mine down on September 13.The first week none of the companies I called bothered to answer their phones or return calls. Then after about 3 weeks some would send someone out for an estimate. It was the same ole story all the time 6 to 8 weeks before they could do it. I had reconciled myself to do it myself and my neighbor was willing to help but Home Depot or Lowe's were always out of supplies or just could never get them. Finally last Wednesday I signed a contract with a company to put up a fence. They wanted 25% down which I was hesitant but he said it would get the ball rolling so I wrote the check. Now this past weekend I was in Home Depot and Lowe's (yeah it's an addiction of mine-like a candy store) and they had fencing supplies stacked to the rafters. Damn it! I can't win. Maybe I'll have a new fence up before Thanksgiving when my father will be here with his long legged pooch.
At any rate, a new type of fencing needs to be developed or approved for the south. The weather reeks havoc on these cedar fences and they don't last more than 10 years. I think it is wasteful but Texas Homeowner Associations won't allow chain link fences.

A Beautiful Morning At The Park
I took the girls to the Millie Bush Bark Park this morning. Our first visit since before Hurricane Ike and since the temperatures are a bit cooler. They were very energetic. It was 50 degrees when we left the house and they didn't hesitate to get in the water. I'll be glad if Sugar Land ever gets their dog park completed on the Brasos River. It'd be much closer

On Matthew Modine but since we have gotten just a bit older, not so much. I still love his movies Birdie and Equinox though.

I Turned 50 And Didn't Feel A Thing
The old truck's odometer turned 50K today and I didn't realize it till I was considering getting some fuel. I guess that's not bad for 3.5 years.Traffic
When I first moved to the burbs of Sugar Land there wasn't squat out here, especially traffic. Even where the mall and shopping centers are were vacant fields and an oh-so-sweet golf driving range. But thanks to the faux economic boom and developers I get to sit in traffic for the shortest excursions on the weekend just as if I were in Houston. I hate traffic, especially when it is not moving.
I noticed the Catholic church is having a bazaar this weekend. I've never been to one and wondered what it would be like. I dismissed the idea till I saw the Budweiser truck and then I thought I might go tomorrow. Ahhh but I'm suppose to go watch the Texans give the Detroit Lions their first win of the season.

The Price To Go
TPTB have got me right where they want me because I'm excited about gas costing less than three bucks a gallon. Actually, it is quite a bit cheaper, like 2.65 per gallon, in other areas but Shell has a monopoly on the gas stations here in Sugar Land. Still this really isn't reflective of $70 a barrel crude oil. I suppose that is "sticky pricing" for you. But it sucks whatever the reason. I suppose the cheaper gas prices is to motivate me to get out there and spend my last dollar for the holidays. Oh and I would if "W" would bail me out or pardon me before he leaves DC.

Might As Well Be A Tennis Ball

I Have The Smallest Dick In The World
That's not all I learned when I started perusing the Internet years ago. Sometimes I pick up useful information as well. I learned that latex gloves works great in raking up pet hair off the carpet or furniture. In this case, cleaning my truck today. The vacuum just can't suck it off the carpet and upholstery sometimes so this works great. Give it a try. It's a good thing!

I Suck A Lot
Now I have the somewhat worthless Dyson animal vac that has no bags that I use frequently but I still use my old Sear's Kenmore canister model too. Especially when cleaning my truck. It's works much better than my shop vac--another piece of crap. But this seems like a lot of dirt for just over two months.

Eileen Herlie aka Myrtle Fargate Is Dead At 90
All My Children was the first soap opera that ever hooked me. Sure I had seen others as a child. I watched Dark Shadows and others that my aunt or grandmother enjoyed. I don't recall my mother ever watching a soap though. Anyway I was saddened to learn of the death of actress Eillen Herlie earlier this week. I remember her talking of her carnie days on the show. She took over Pine Valleys only boutique at one point and always had people rooming with her. It's funny how these ole broads stick in your mind. On AMC there were Mona Kane, Phoebe Tyler, Kate Martin, Ruth Martin, and lastly Myrtle Fargate, that I enjoyed. Rest in peace Myrtle.

My Dad Loved These
Pistachios were such a treat growing up. My dad loved/loves them. He would scold me for throwing them all over the yard for the squirrels. But now they are quite plentiful stateside. I even have an uncle growing them in Wilcox, Arizona. Thanks to him and the Colorado River I always have plenty.
Pistachios are seen after sorting at a processing factory in Rafsanjan, 1,000 kilometers southeast of Tehran. Iran may this year see its position as the world's largest producer of pistachio nuts overtaken by the United States, as the Islamic Republic suffers one of its worst harvests ever. AP photo

Israelis ride their bicycles on the car-free Ayalon expressway, during the holiday of Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv, Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008. Israeli's are marking the holiday of Yom Kippur, or 'Day of Atonement,' which is the holiest of Jewish holidays when observant Jews atone for the sins of the past year and the Israeli nation comes to almost a complete standstill.

Damn
I hate it when I fall asleep watching TV and wake up over 2 hours later. Do you think I could go to sleep now if I went to bed? Oh hell no. But I will be exhausted about 6:00 AM when it is time to get up though. I don't even recall being sleepy. Is that old age or hardening of the arteries?
I do recall watching The Practice. The first time for me. Not a bad show but it must have a high payroll. Then again, I think Hollywood is finally starting to think like the rest of the country and not shell out the cash as before. Oh except for the banking industry. Some body bail me out! Oh then I was watching that new show starring Donald Sutherland ???? but I think I switched to PBS to watch In The Key Of G because when I woke up the end of the Warren Buffett and Charlie Rose interview was on. At least I got my dishes washed before I sat down. One sheep, two sheep, three sheep,...
